Suk Shuglie Born in Seoul, South Korea, Suk grew up on a farm in Yesan, a small town about 100 miles south of Seoul. She was one of eight children. As a child, Suk was intrigued by the things she saw around her and charmed by the effects of time, and the process of change.

Suk's love of art developed during her primary and high school years, where she enrolled in every art course she was offered. "Ever since I can remember, I was always attracted to the arts, whether it be music, dance, sculpture, or painting. I always felt that I belonged." Then in 1980, she met and married Wes Shuglie and moved to Lancaster, PA. Far from the land of the morning calm, Suk began painting to express her feelings of homesickness. "I've always envied artists or people who could express their innermost thoughts as visual works."

During the 1990's, she graduated with a degree from Pennsylvania School of Art and Design in Lancaster, and attended Millersville University. Suk has attended summer workshops at Bennington College in Vermont, for over 10 years. Through national and international competition, she won positions in the Masters Painting Program at the Academy Di Bella Art in Florence, Italy, and in the Painting Program at the Escola d'Arts Plastiquie i Disseny in Barcelona, Spain.

Suk has built a wide, well-earned reputation in the Lancaster area and in the mid-atlantic region, Her work has been published in The Best of Watercolors —Vol. 3, In Their Own Words, The Comfort of Color, and most recently Image Dancing which she co-authored. Over the last few years she has been awarded Lancaster Newspaper's most favorite artist. She has also been listed in the National Registry of the Who's Who in Executives and Professionals in the Arts, 2000-2001 Edition and The Library of Congress Bicentennial (1800-2000) Edition of Local Legacies.

Suk has always wanted to be an artist who learns from art, past and present. "I want to leave to future generations the gift that past generations have left to me." With her appearance at art shows, Suk hoped to give a sense of community through the relationships she'd built. These relationships led her to open her own art gallery in 1997, the Suk Shuglie Fine Arts Gallery in Lancaster, PA.

As a visit to Suk's gallery or website will show, the body of her work remains remarkable for it's consistency of quality and technique. She remains faithful to the splendors, dreams, and creations of childhood. She gives lasting life to moments of exalted experience, each one having its own strength, subtlety and beauty. Each of her strokes a line in life, an unsubdued glory.
